Monsoon season in Vegas has arrived.

This is the time of year that I truly enjoy. Earlier this evening while shooting at The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway a very large thunderstorm rolled into Vegas. My cellphone was going off with text messages as the weather turned ugly; friends were texting asking if I was chasing. Not tonight, as I was at the Night of Fire at The Bullring; how fitting. With a rain delay at The Bullring I grabbed my gear and tried to catch some of the lightning that was rolling across. Skunked this time but that’s okay, because the monsoon season is here and there should be plenty of storms to chase this season in Vegas. This is not by any means some high tech research that I have conducted, but by my own gut instincts. Will my instincts be right? Only time will tell.

Time Lapse in Vegas

Time lapse photography is always a joy to shoot. Recently, I found an article about making a low cost panning unit to shoot time lapse. I dusted off the workbench and cranked out what I called the “ghetto panning machine” made with nothing more than a kitchen timer and a few bolts. All the parts were found at my local hardware shop and took me about 30 minutes to construct. In fact, it took longer to charge the battery on the cordless drill than actually building the unit. I was very pleased with the result of the final sequences. Enjoy!
